Minnesota Farm Bureau has a long list of state and federal policy priorities for 2022, including drought assistance. Newly elected President Dan Glessing says they are urging state legislators to take up a Drought Relief Package.
He says they want disaster aid to include grants for forage as some livestock producers hit hardest by drought are running out of hay.
On the national level Glessing was recently in Washington D.C. and says a new farm bill will be their main policy focus in the new year.
Glessing says Minnesota Farm Bureau wants to get a jump start on the farm bill debate as hearings are scheduled for the ag committees in 2022.
He says they are also playing defense against EPA as they are in the process of overturning many of the Trump era regulations.
