Farm Bureau members from 10 Minnesota counties are in the nation’s capital this week making lobbying visits. Farm Bureau President Kevin Paap says they’re talking to federal lawmakers about everything from the new farm bill to risk management, rural health insurance and trade.
He says keeping free trade agreements in place is critical for agriculture and any talk or even movement to withdraw from those will cause economic harm to America’s farmers and ranchers.
Paap says they also want to let Congress know it’s imperative to keep a strong crop insurance program intact in the new farm bill.
Paap says their group will also meet with several Congressional committees and visit USDA offices. They’re in D.C. September 12-16.
