Crop conditions are still running very high in Minnesota, but that may not translate into a new production record for corn and soybeans this year. Corn is rated 85-percent good to excellent, which is steady with last week and the soybean rating was also unchanged at 80-percent good to excellent. However, Monsanto Agronomist Jack Brodschaug says the corn crop had issues at planting and has seen a fair amount of weather stress and storm damage, which will limit yields.
As a result, he doesn’t think the corn will beat the 188 bushel per acre yield record set in 2015.
Soybeans have more potential to break last year’s record, but Brodschaug says unlike 2015 the crop did not get off to the best start.
Minnesota’s soybean yield was a record 50 bushels per acre in 2015, with total production at 377.5 million bushels.
