The Minnesota Attorney General’s office is actively working with Minnesota Farmers Union on their Fairness for Farmers initiative and to address antitrust issues in agriculture.   AG Keith Ellison says they are also working with other state’s to bring fairness back to the markets for farmers and ranchers.

He says the Biden Administration has been very responsive to their requests and that has been the basis for Biden’s presidential executive order.

Ellison says the monopolies in agriculture extend beyond the meat packing industry and have happened due to the unwillingness to enforce current anti-trust legislation.  However, he says its not too late to roll back this concentration.

He says the recently announced $1 billion supply chain action plan and USDA’s online tool for reporting violations of the Packers and Stockyards Act are a great first step in their fight to restore fairness to farmers.
