True to being the largest youth organization in the state, Minnesota 4-H boasts over 40,000 members, and nearly 30 of these students have the opportunity to serve as Minnesota State 4-H ambassadors. With fair season in full swing many 4-H projects are brought into the spotlight, but the ambassador team continues their leadership work throughout the entire year.

Breckin Anderson, a second year ambassador from Wilkin County, says that the benefits of 4-H are long lasting.

“When you put in that work and effort the rewards are so huge, 4-H offers tons of scholarships and you meet so many amazing people,” Anderson said. “Connections are huge… I met so many people and I know so many important people in different places that if I need to I could call and they’d probably help me out… 4-H is huge with building connections.”

Brenna Wordes from Swift County is just beginning her first year with the ambassador team but her many years in 4-H second the thoughts of her teammate.

“4-H is a great opportunity for young people to really experience what it’s like to get that first taste of leadership,” Wordes said. “And learn how to do their own, thing try something new… or fail at it and try again harder.”

The ambassador team will kick off their year of service at the Minnesota State Fair followed by several youth development camps during the winter and summer that they organize and facilitate. For more information visit https://extension.umn.edu/4-h-ambassadors/minnesota-4-h-state-ambassadors.
