Major League Soccer’s consideration of an expansion team for the Twin Cities still includes both Minneapolis and St. Paul.

MLS President and Deputy Commissioner Mark Abbott said at a news conference Tuesday there’s no timetable for St. Paul to act on a proposed stadium site at Snelling and University avenues near Interstate 94.

Abbott also said the league has had no further talk with Minneapolis officials since a previously stated July 1 deadline for securing a venue passed without commitment. But Abbott said that MLS has not ruled out Minneapolis, where a stadium has been proposed near Target Field.

Abbott said there’s no intent to “play one group off the other.”

St. Paul mayor Chris Coleman said the city has not requested exclusive bargaining rights with the league.
