The Corps of Engineers is expecting higher than average flows from Gavin’s Point Dam on the Missouri River to be enough to drop levels on upstream reservoirs to normal elevations by winter.
Eileen Williamson, spokesperson for the Corps Omaha office, says while there has been some heavy rain this year, unlike 2011 most of it was downstream of the major reservoirs…..
Williamson says they are always balancing flood storage and necessary releases…
Williamson says with mountain snowpack runoff about done, they are starting to see the upstream levels come down…..
Flows from Gavin’s Point Dam near Yankton are expected to be around sixty thousand cubic feet per second well into the fall. That’s about double normal flows for this time of year.
