The Missouri National Recreational River is a portion of the river that stretches 100 miles from Pickstown to Ponca and contributed more than $6 million dollars to the surrounding communities. A new National Park Service report found that more than 134 thousand visitors spent over $5.5 million dollars and supported 88 jobs in the local area. Park Superintendent Rick Clark says this part of the Missouri attracts visitors because it’s unique.

The report is completed every year, and Clark says the number of visitors for 2014 was down from the previous year, but the economic contribution didn’t show it.

The report shows that most park visitor spending was on lodging, followed by food and then gas. The full report can be found on the National Park Service website.
