The Missouri Sedimentation Action Coalition is working on solutions to the growing problem of sand flowing into Lewis & Clark Lake on the Missouri River. About five million tons of mud flow into the lake each year, slowly turning much of the western end into a slough.
Coalition Chairman Mark Simpson of Niobrara says they are actively looking for uses for the river sand…..
The US Geological Survey did a study that shows some potential use of the sand in the oil and gas industry.
Simpson says they would like to set up a small demonstration project this summer……
Simpson says they are also working on future funding……
The coalition is made up of cities, counties and other interested parties along the river in Nebraska and South Dakota.
