Iowa Farmers Union President Aaron Lehman met with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi this week and hosted her on a tour of his farm near Des Moines. He says she spoke with him and several of his neighbors on various agricultural issues. However, their primary discussion was the need to work out the SNAP dispute between Republicans and Democrats and pass a bi-partisan farm bill.
He says new farm legislation is badly needed to help farmers in this depressed agricultural economy.
Lehman says it’s imperative a new farm bill is approved this year rather than an extension of the present legislation.
Lehman says Pelosi told he and his fellow growers the goal of House members is to pass a farm bill that’s bi-partisan. Thr Minority Leader told them the most successful farm bills that have passed have included input from both sides of the aisle.
