Minnesota lawmakers wrapped up their 2015 state legislative session this week but failed to pass any tax relief measures for farmers and ranchers. That’s disappointing to State Farm Bureau’s Public Policy Director Doug Busselman. He says that’s something they’ll have to work on in next year’s session.
Busselman says the tax burden on farmers and ranchers has been rising and without any significant relief this session will be felt even more given the low commodity prices producers are experiencing.
He says while his group is disappointed a transportation funding compromise was never reached, they’re greatfull the tax increase the Governor had sought did not go through.
Busselman says lawmakers are done now for this session although if the Governor vetos their budget bill they could be called back for a special session as they’re required by law to pass a budget.
