Tomorrow which is Thanksgiving is a big day for turkey producers across the United States but particularly for Minnesota. That state is the leading turkey producing state in the country. Minnesota Turkey Grower’s Association Executive Director Steve Olson says while it remains a big holiday, it has changed some from the past.
Olson says there are a lot of turkeys sold domestically but exports markets are also important.
He says there are over 400 turkey producers in Minnesota producing those birds.
Olson says the Minnesota turkey industry has recovered from last year’s highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak and is now back to full production..
