Last week, Minnesota Turkey Growers Executive Director Steve Olson joined a group of agricultural and business leaders meeting at the White House to discuss trade possibilities with Cuba. Olson says down the road, Cuba could be a great destination for turkey. He says several credit barriers need to be lifted.

He says there are several other issues that need to be worked out including improving the infrastructure in the country and enhancing the distribution process.

Olson says Cuba could eventually be a customer of many Minnesota products both ag and non ag. He says his group has been working with Soybean growers on developing markets in the Island nation as well.

Olson says several memorandums of understanding have been worked out in the past between the U.S. and Cuba and there are some more in the offing.
