Dairy farmers in Minnesota have the second highest enrollment so far for the Federal Dairy Margin Coverage Insurance Program. About a third of the dairies nationally have enrolled so far. Just over 1500 Minnesota dairies have signed up. Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen says that’s encouraging as those producers can get both federal help and state assistance available if they participate in the DMC program.
He says some of the federal and state payments have already gone out to Minnesota’s dairy producers.
Petersen is hoping even more of the Minnesota dairy producers will sign up for the DMC program.
Nationally of the over 37,000 licensed dairy operations, over 13,000 have enrolled in the Dairy Margin Coverage Program.
