Minnesota Soybean Growers Association members are working on state legislation dealing with tax conformity, buffer taxes and funding for a soybean processing plant. Executive Director Joe Smentek says the Section 179 tax conformity measure would help farmers. It’s being heard in committee this week and is the same bill that passed both the State House and Senate last year but was vetoed by the Governor.
He says they’re also working for passage of a bill to give farmers a tax break for buffers.
And Smentek says they’re requesting $15 million in state funding for the biennium for a soybean crushing plant in Crookston that would be part of a larger facility.
Smentek says that would involve a request for $10 million the first year and $5 million the second year.
