Minnesota Soybean Grower Association members are monitoring ag and funding bills going through the state legislature. Executive Director Joe Smentek says the ag measure that’s in conference committee has funding in it to fight Palmar Amaranth and other noxious weeds and also support for the Northern Plains Crop Institute.
He says state lawmakers worked early in the session to give some pandemic relief to producers and now they’re hoping for more assistance from the federal government and watching to get clarification on the President’s Rescue plan.
Smentek says even though the legislature is scheduled to complete their work for this session on May 17 likely wont’ get that done as he expects a special session to be held.
Smentek says two of the provisions contained in the ag spending bill they have concern with include some new fees and restrictions on crop inputs and they’ll be battling to keep those out.
