Minnesota Soybean Grower’s Association officials are watching a pair of measures in the state legislature aimed at providing property tax relief for farmers. Soybean Association Director of Public Affairs Joe Smentek says the legislation they’re monitoring if passed would give producers a tax credit.

He says the two measures are similar to a bill that was approved last year but then vetoed.

Smentek says many farmers who’ve been struggling with a depressed ag economy are being impacted heavily by property taxes and badly need relief.

He says if relief isn’t passed this session, some producers may go out of business completely.
