Minnesota’s Rural Finance Authority Board has issued a Disaster Declaration for the State. Minnesota Ag Commissioner Thom Petersen says that came after record snowfall in late February and early March that brought barn collapses and other damage.
He says following that they worked with the state legislature to free up money to help farmers who suffered damages.
Petersen says they’re also being creative and working with Minnesota Farm Service Agency officials to couple their loans with the RFA monies to assist producers.
Petersen says the disaster recovery loan program through RFA can be used to help clean up, repair, or replace farm structures and septic and water systems as well as replace cropping inputs, feed and livestock.
