Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has outlined a climate partnership designed to create new revenue streams for farmers. He’s also asked them to submit comments on the Climate Smart Agriculture and Forestry Partnership Initiative Hannah Bernhardt farms near Finlayson, Minnesota and serves on the National Farmers Union’s Climate Change Policy Advisory Committee. She wants producers to comment as well so they can be eligible for benefits.
She says besides carbon sequestration, practices that improve soil health are critical to achieving positive climate goals.
Bernhardt says for these climate initiatives to work, the government must incentive farmers to take part in them.
The deadline to file comments on the Climate Smart Agriculture and Forestry Partnership Initiative is November 1, 2021. Comments are being taken via the Federal Register.
