Minnesota Pork Producers Await Governor’s Signature on Bills

Agriculture scored some wins during the Minnesota state legislative session and now farm groups are waiting for the Governor to sign those bills into law. Minnesota Pork Producers Executive Director Dave Preisler says they are embracing the property tax relief bill passed during the session, as it would significantly lower the tax burden on farmers in the state.

Preisler says they’re also hoping the Governor will sign a measure that provides additional money for the state vet lab. The funding came from dollars in the budget not used for avian influenza response.

He says they also support a bill that made some revisions to legislation passed last year requiring a permit for farmers to apply manure with flexible hose.

They’re also expecting the Governor to call for a special session to complete a transportation bill.
