The revamped North American Free Trade Agreement now called the U.S. Mexican Canadian Agreement is being hailed by most U.S. agricultural groups. Minnesota Pork Producers Association President GreG Boerboom says it’s a great deal for the pork industry in that it means zero tariffs on U.S. product going into Canada.
He says the new USMCA sends a good signal to other potential U.S. trading partners that the U.S. stands on its word and can be counted on as a reliable supplier.
Boerboom expects the U.S. Congress to approve the USMCA.
The U.S. dairy industry also likes the agreement in that in it, Canada gave up its Class 7 milk pricing policy which was a huge source of contention.
