Minnesota Pork Producers Association members are monitoring the recent outbreak of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus in Manitoba Canada. Minnesota Pork Producers President Jay Moore says his state had dealt with the disease in the past and is watching closely what’s happening in Canada.
Manitoba’s Office of the Chief Veterinarian is working with the Manitoba Pork Council in helping their producers deal with the outbreak which has hit 41 sites and 18 operations representing over 4,000 sows and 126,000 nursery spaces and over 99,000 feeder spaces. Moore says Canadian officials are handling the PEDV outbreak properly.
Moore says biosecurity is the key to handling PED virus and other pork diseases.
Moore says it’s important for pork producers in any country to stay vigilant when it comes to PED virus and biosecurity protocols.
