Minnesota Pork Executive Says Pork Exports Are Up

U.S. pork exports are up from last year, despite higher pork prices linked to smaller supplies and the PED Virus. Minnesota Pork Executive Director Dave Preisler says for the first five months of the year the U.S. exported 31-percent of all the pork produced and that represented a slight increase over last year at this time.
He says there has been a shift in the countries buying U.S. pork. Purchases from Canada are down, but China, Hong Kong and Mexico are up.
The higher price of U.S. beef is also making pork more competitive in export markets.
