Minnesota is one of twelve states eligible for sign up in a pilot USDA Conservation Reserve Program called CLEAR 30. Minnesota Land Stewardship Project’s Policy Program Organizer Tom Nuessmeier says CLEAR 30 allows landowners to enroll in a 30 year CRP contract and enhance water quality by reducing runoff from farm fields.
Traditional CRP contracts are for 10 to 15 years but the CLEAR 30 is a much longer period of time for taking land out of production. Nuessmeier says this long term investment in conservation provides multiple benefits.
He says his group encourages farmers to seriously consider enrolling in this CLEAR 30 program.
Enrollment for CLEAR 30 is from July 6 to August 21.
