United States Trade Representative Robert LIghthizer just released his annual report and took the European Union to task for putting up market access barriers through geographical indicators. The GI’s are the common names used for various dairy products like feta and parmesan cheeses. Minnesota Milk Producers Association President Dave Buck is pleased with the support of the USTR on the GI issue.

He says getting help from the Trump administration comes at a welcome time given the depressed state of the U.S. dairy economy.

Buck says it’s critical all trading partners play by the same rules so the best markets are available for everyone.

Buck says their national group, The National Milk Producers Association has been weighing in on the GI issue for some time and their stance is finally being heard by the USTR’s office.
