The Federal Government is rolling out a new dairy insurance program with signup in Mid October. Minnesota Milk Producer’s Executive Director Lucas Sjostrom says it’s called the Dairy Revenue Protection program and will be a good safety net tool for dairy producers. He says his group worked with University of Minnesota Extension and Farm Bureau Insurance to help develop DRP.

He says DRP will be a simple program for producers to understand and will also be a very flexible tool.

Sjostrom says producers will be able to use both DRP and the Margin Protection Program to protect both their revenue with one and their margins with the other.

Sjostrom says for more details, producers should check with their local insurance agent. Enrollment is set for October.
