Minnesota farmers and farm groups are pushing Governor Mark Dayton for a special session to deal with unfinished business including transportation funding and a property tax break for farmers. Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith says she’s optimistic a compromise can be reached that will allow the legislature to reconvene.
She says the property tax bill isn’t just important for farmers, but all Minnesota residents.
Minnesota Ag Commissioner Dave Frederickson says the property tax reduction is especially critical for farmers this year with the current low commodity price environment.
Frederickson says if a special session is not called by August 15 these issues will be pushed to the next legislative calendar.
