Now that both Houses of Congress have passed their respective 2018 farm bills the next step is melding the two through a conference committee. Minnesota Land Stewardship Project Federal Policy Organizer Ben Anderson says they want the conferees to include what the Senate has in the farm bill with the payment limits provision as well as preservation of the Conservation Stewardship program.

He expects a major battle in the conference committee over the payment limits actively engaged in farming provision.

Anderson says it’s imperative the final farm bill keeps the Conservation Stewardship program intact and doesn’t eliminate it as the House farm bill calls for.

Anderson says overall the Senate farm bill is much better than what the House approved.
