Minnesota LSP Wants Soil Health Component In Next Farm Bill

Minnesota Land Stewardship Project members want incentives for farmers who implement practices to improve soil health on their operations. LSP members are working with Minnesota Congressman Tim Walz on getting that included in the next farm bill. LSP Policy Program Organizer Ben Anderson says Walz will be putting forward a marker bill addressing that and they hope it gets put into the new farm bill.

He says the best way to strengthen soil health farming practices is through both EQIP and CSP.

Anderson says despite budget challenges with the new farm bill, it’s cost effective to provide incentives for farmers to improve their soil health.

Anderson is hoping both the House and Senate Ag Committees will provide increased technical and financial assistance to farmers for enhanced soil health practices.
