The U.S. House Agriculture Committee on Monday is scheduled to review USDA conservation programs. Minnesota Land Stewardship Project Policy Organizer Paul Sobacinski wants them to concentrate on enhancing and making the Conservation Stewardship Program more efficient and effective.
He says CSP is most effective when it’s applied as a full program on a farmers operation and thus boosts overall conservation.
Sobacinski says the Environmental Quality Incentives Program or EQIP is another important component that needs to be funded in a targeted way where it doesn’t go to necessarily the largest producers.
Sobacinski says farmers have a supporter in Congressman Collin Peterson who chairs the House Ag Committee and they’re looking forward to working with him to make conservation programs workable and effective.
