The process on getting a new farm bill done has been slowed in the conference committee over unresolved differences on more than just work requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. House-Senate conferees also differ on the conservation, commodity and energy titles of the farm bill. Minnesota Land Stewardship Project Policy Program Organizer Tom Nuessmeier says the final farm bill must not follow the House’s approach which eliminated the Conservation Stewardship program.
He says their members also don’t like the SNAP work requirement provisions contained in the House farm bill.
Nuessmeier says there are too many loopholes in the commodity programs put forward by the House which also has conferees at odds.
Nuessmeier says it’s critical the Conferees complete their work this month and get a farm bill passed before the current one expires September 30.
