USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service has proposed an interim rule for the Conservation Stewardship Program. The agency is taking public comments on the rule up until January 13 of 2020. Minnesota Land Stewardship Project Policy Program Organizer Paul Sobacinski says one of the proposed changes to the CSP that would be beneficial for farmers calls for increasing payment rates for adoption of cover crop rotations.

He says another positive change in the proposed CSP rule calls for introducing a new supplemental payment for advanced grazing management.

Sobacinski says he’s also glad to see the NRCS in their rule is creating a one time payment for program enrollees developing a comprehensive conservation plan.

Sobacinski encourages farmers to submit their comments to the interim proposed rule.
