Minnesota Land Stewardship Project members are actively meeting with their Senators and Representatives to convince them to approve a responsible farm bill this year. LSP Policy Program Organizer Ben Anderson says the 2018 legislation must contain a solid conservation title as well as help for beginning farmers and ranchers and policies that benefit rural communities.
He says their group will be meeting this month with Minnesota’s Congressional delegation to weigh in on the farm bill, especially as the Senate ramps up debate early next month and the House takes the legislation up again June 22.
Anderson says while a new farm bill is needed this year, it’s most important it’s one that directly benefits producers and doesn’t gear payments to large operations.
The Senate’s expected to work on the farm legislation early next month with the House debating it June 22.
