Minnesota state lawmakers wrapped up their special session over the weekend by passing several measures helpful for farmers and ranchers. Minnesota Farm Bureau Director of Public Policy Amber Hanson Glaeser says several bills addressing taxes, Ag Financing and Infrastructure were all approved. She says one of the biggest wins was an increase in the school property tax credit.

She says lawmakers approved funding for the State Agriculture Department, as well as money for farmers mental health.

Glaeser says a bill was passed for conformity with the federal section 179 expensing and an infrastructure measure was approved. She said they were able to fund the transportation bill without raising the gas tax.

She says Governor Tim Walz had wanted to pay for infrastructure with an increase in the gas tax but lawmakers reached a compromise with him this time around. Glaeser says that issue may be revisited next session.
