Prior to adjourning, Minnesota State lawmakers approved legislation that stops foreclosures on farmers who take part in creditor mediation through harvest time to December 1, 2020. The Minnesota Land Steward Ship Project worked with legislators to get that passed. LSP Policy Organizer Paul Sobacinski says having this delay will help those producers under mediation who’ve been impacted by the pandemic

He says having the delay will assist producers in possibly getting government aid or better commodity prices that will improve their debt situation.

Sobacinski says Minnesota’s Farm Mediation program has been very successful since it began during the farm crisis of the 1980s.

Sobacinski says it’s encouraging legislators saw the need for the extension and gave such overwhelming support for farmers and ranchers.
