Minnesota lawmakers are in the process of reviewing the state’s buffer law which was put in place in 2016 to help improve water quality. The Minnesota Soybean Growers Association wants some tweaks to the regulation. Director of Public Affairs Joe Smentek says they want farmers to be given different farming practice options to use under the buffer law.

He says there are several legislative proposals lawmakers are looking at including one to completely repeal the law.

Smentek says there will be discussion today on the buffer law in a joint meeting of House committees.

Smentek says the State Board of Water and Soil Resources is continuing to work on implementation of the buffer law.
