Minnesota Congresswoman Angie Craig is urging House leaders to include additional funding in the spending bill to be debated on the House floor this week. She wants it to include authority for the Commodity Credit Corporation to extend past the $30 billion mark before October 1. Minnesota Soybean Grower’s Executive Director Joe Smentek says that’s critical for making sure the Market Facilitation Program payments get fully distributed.

He says the MFP payments have helped provide growers some relief from the trade war. However, they want a deal so China will resume soybean trade.

Smentek is asking his group’s members to weigh in with Congress about continuing the MFP until there is an end to the trade dispute.

Smentek says soybean industry groups continue to work to build new markets for soybean growers. This fall he’ll be traveling to Japan and Norway to talk to potential buyers about purchasing Minnesota soybeans.
