Minnesota’s Land Stewardship Project Releases Crop Insurance Report

Minnesota Land Stewardship Project members want some changes to the federal crop insurance program. Monday, the group released a report called “Crop Insurance, A Torn Safety Net.” LSP member and Gaylord farmer Darrel Mosel says the present crop insurance program isn’t working and needs to operate as a safety net as it was originally intended to.

He says they are also in favor of crop insurance payment limits.

Mosel says crop insurance needs to be reformed so it’s linked to conservation and provides incentives to farmers using those practices.

Mosel, who chairs the Federal Policy Committee for the Land Stewardship Project, says he’ll be sharing his crop insurance concerns with Minnesota’s legislative team members who serve on the House and Senate Ag Committee and will be writing the new farm bill.
