Minnesota IPM Specialist Advises Scouting For Black Cutworms And Alfalfa Weevils

Farmers this spring in Southwest Minnesota are seeing black cutworms which hit the state in late April and are now showing up in bigger numbers. University of Minnesota Extension Integrated Pest Management Specialist Bruce Potter says growers should be scouting for those in SW Minnesota.

He says with many growers now into their second cutting of alfalfa, they should be on the lookout for alfalfa weevils.

Potter says two other areas growers need to get ready for in the next few weeks are corn borers and corn rootworm later this summer.

Potter says the good news so far is that the normal migrations of pests haven’t been as large this year as they normally are.
