Minnesota lawmakers are far apart on their plans for funding the state’s infrastructure. Governor Mark Dayton has an $11 billion plan which includes hiking the gas tax while House Republicans rolled out their proposal Monday which calls for a $ 7 billion dollar ten year road bill with no increases in the gas tax. Minnesota Farmers Union Government Relations Director Thom Petersen says his group supports a combination of the two plans being merged into a compromise measure.
Petersen says farmers and ranchers understand the need for funding the state’s roads and bridges and are willing to pony up to pay for part of that funding.
Petersen says it will be a challenge for legislators to come together as they only have six weeks left in this year’s session.
