The Republican-controlled Minnesota House has passed an 18.5-billion-dollar public school funding bill, the single-largest piece of the state budget. Golden Valley Democrat Mike Freiberg says the legislation underfunds Minnesota schools and will cause teacher layoffs and larger class sizes
Eden Prairie Republican Jenifer Loon says replacing funding for pre-kindergarten is money for school readiness programs, which she argues are much more flexible. Expanding pre-kindergarten is a top priority of Democratic Governor Mark Dayton.
