Minnesota Health Officials Begin Survey of Zika Mosquitoes

Weather permitting, state health officials will begin surveying a number of areas in southern Minnesota for one of two species of mosquitoes known to carry the Zika virus.  Dave Neitzel is with the state Department of Health, and says the good news is the Asian Tiger mosquito does not bode well during the winter months

Small populations of the Tiger Asian mosquitoes have been found in the Twin Cities a total of 17 times.  Neitzel says it’s likely they were transported in old tires or other water holding containers.  In June of 2015, Asian Tiger mosquitoes were found at a tire-recycling operation in the south metro.
