Farmers nationally and in the region are harvesting the soybean crop at record pace and in states like Minnesota yield results are coming in better than expected. USDA’s Crop Progress report showed harvest as of October 4 nationally at 38-percent, 10 points ahead of average, while in Minnesota 61-percent of the crop is combined, well ahead of the 35-percent average. Dairyland Seeds Regional Agronomist Brian Weller says the dry weather has pushed the harvest.
Minnesota was a garden spot most of the season and Weller says that’s showing up in the strong soybean yields being reported across the state.
While soybeans are coming off fast, Weller cautions farmers that the hot dry August weather pushed along the corn and there may be standability issues. So, farmers may not be able to let that corn dry in the field.
Corn harvest in Minnesota is just getting started at 14-percent verses the 7-percent average.
