The individual health insurance market has been a challenge for Minnesota’s farmers and ranchers, who are facing escalating costs. As a result, the Minnesota Farmers Union is working with 40 Square, a farmer’s self-insurance cooperative. Co-op Project Manager Char Vrieze says their cooperative is giving producers more options for their health insurance coverage.
She says their co-op surveyed Minnesota’s producers and from that information they were able to offer producers half a dozen major medical plans.
Vrieze says they’ve held several meetings across the state explaining what the 40 Square Cooperative does and describing their services.
Last session the Minnesota legislature passed a measure that allowed the formation of health insurance cooperatives.
