Tuesdays election results were largely positive for Minnesota Agriculture according to State Farmers Union Government Relations Director Thom Petersen. He says with former Congressman Tim Walz becoming Governor and the Dems now controlling the House it means the Ag Committee ranking member will become chairman and the State’s Chief Executive will also have a solid ag background to help them on statewide issues.
He also says both parties at the state level will have to work together now with the Republicans controlling the Minnesota Senate and the Democrats having the majority in the House.
Petersen says he thinks now there will finally be agreement on a new farm bill and that will happen during the lame duck session of Congress.
Petersen says he expects both tax and environmental issues to take center stage at the Minnesota Legislature next session.
