Minnesota Farmers Union members are monitoring bill going through the state legislature dealing with biodiesel and taxes. Farmers Union’s Government Relations Director Thom Petersen says the state is going to a 20 percent biodiesel blend on May 1, up from 10 percent. He says a measure they’re supporting just passed the State Senate that will help retailers ramp up their biodiesel offerings.
He says one of the tax issues they’re following is legislation that would provide an incentive payment to farmers for installing buffers on their operations.
Petersen says they’re also backing a tax bill that gives an increased credit on property tax levies to farmers and ranchers.
Petersen says their 2019 state legislative session is winding down with less a month left prior to adjournment.
