Minnesota Farmers Union members and other ag groups are still hoping there will be a special legislative session held but the time is running out to get that done. State Farmers Union Government Relations Director Thom Petersen says the Senate Majority Leader and House Speaker are meeting this week in hopes of reaching a breakthrough.

He says the top issues that agriculture groups want addressing in a special session are not only bonding and taxes but transportation too.

Petersen says now is the time to address bonding as current interest rates are low.

Petersen says what’s frustrating is that a non ag issue like light rail in the metro area is holding up the special session which would address needed ag issues while farmers and ranchers are being negatively impacted by a downturn in the ag economy.
