Minnesota Governor Tim Walz wants an increase in the state gas tax to help fund infrastructure in the state. Minnesota Soybean Growers Association Executive Director Joe Smentek says they want infrastructure legislation passed and will back any funding source that will help make that a reality.

He says they’ll decide whether or not to back the Governor’s plan once they know the full details.

Minnesota Farm Bureau Public Policy Director Amber Hanson Glaeser says while they also need more specifics on the infrastructure legislation, but want roads and bridges adequately funded.

Governor Walz has yet to release his infrastructure legislation. Currently the gas tax in Minnesota is 28.5 cents per gallon, about the national average.
