The Minnesota Farm Bureau is working to try and get state lawmakers to pass property tax relief. Farm taxes have gone up 132% over the last ten years while business taxes have increased 24 % and home taxes have gone up 55%. Farm Bureau President Kevin Paap says they like the measures put in by Representative Steve Drazkowski and Senator Lyle Koenen to keep farmland from being taxed to pay for school and other construction projects. He says it’s a matter of fairness.
Paap says they’ll keep working for property tax relief as long as it takes and says Drazkowski’s and Koenen’s measure is a good starting point.
Paap doesn’t want to see rural people pitted against urban residents but wants a reasonable solution to the problem.
