Disagreements among the House Agriculture Committee members regarding the nutrition tittle are stalling movement on the farm bill. Minnesota Farmers Union President Gary Wertish says there hasn’t been much transparency with the measure being drafted and many Democrats feel they’re being left out. He says the conflict is with work requirements in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

He says there are many rural residents who participate in SNAP and other nutrition programs.

Wertish is concerned the farm bill is facing constant delays, which could slow passage this year.

He says there needs to be a strong nutrition title in the farm bill or non-ag members of Congress may not vote for it.
